They specialize in travel to East Africa, China and Costa Rica. These exciting destinations provide you with an unbelievable number of opportunities for adventure. Whether it is wildlife viewing, photography, or interaction with the local peoples, their trips are always full of wonder and excitement. Until recently however theses experiences were inaccessible to persons with disabilities or mature travelers. Government regulations, hotel and airline standards, etc. concerning persons with disabilities have not been up to the same level as found in the US. Because of this a whole group of people has been denied access to some of the most beautiful and fulfilling experiences on this planet. That is until now. Eco-Adventure International has made the commitment to change this situation. They now offer several programs that are especially suited to people with disabilities and mature travelers. They have the equipment and the personnel in place and ready to go. Some of your options are: COSTA RICA Eco-Adventure International is pleased to announce their new accessible trips to the wonderful country of Costa Rica. This jewel of Central America houses some of the most pristine rainforest and bio-diverse regions anywhere on earth. It has long been a destination for nature lovers and sun worshipers of all ages. Through the efforts of the Eco-Adventure staff and their Costa Rican partners you are now able to join them! Their trips will take you to the dense jungles, to a very active volcano, and out to the beach. They have put together an itinerary that introduces you to the wonders of the rainforest and the beauty of the mountains along with allowing plenty of time to relax and enjoy the sun! These trips are designed for persons who can get in and out of a low van with or without assistance. At present they have no accessible vans in service. The facilities used are all wheelchair friendly but may not be up to US standards. Fortunately they have plenty of staff who are always at your service and ready to assist! SOUTH AFRICA The country of South Africa offers some travel opportunities for persons with disabilities not found in other parts of the continent. The infrastructure in the major cities has been developing with accessibility in mind. Though there still is a long way to go this country is considered the most accessible friendly. They have two programs operating here. ACCESSIBLE AFRICA - This is a custom program that is set up on an individual basis. The people involved have a great deal of experience in dealing with persons with a wide range of disabilities. They even have a fully equipped van that can easily handle power chairs. This is unheard of in the rest of Africa! If you would like them to work up an itinerary for you please give them a call and they will work out the details. This program works best for small groups of one to six. EAST AFRICA - SAFARI UNDER CANVAS - Their ·Safari Under Canvas· programs allow participants to experience Africa the way that Teddy Roosevelt did in the bush, up close and personal! To accomplish this, these trips utilize mobile-tented camps. Do not let the ·tent· part throw you. These are classic walk-in safari tents that have provided adventurers with shelter and comfort for decades. Each has it·s own toilet and shower and is complete with two double beds, washbasin, night table, lanterns, etc. Most important everything is one level with no steps, doorjambs, ramps or other obstacles. Meals are served in a separate dinning tent complete with fine china and bar! The meals and accommodations rival that of many five star lodges. In addition their staff is always at the ready to provide any and all assistance that may be needed. These Safaris operate in both Kenya and Tanzania. Their guides have many years in the bush under their belt and are some of the best in the business. Their vehicles have been designed to accommodate wheelchairs and can handle groups with mixed levels of disabilities. For those with difficulty walking they provide camp wheelchairs and valet service to and from their tent! These also come in handy on shopping trips to the local market and while visiting with the local peoples. It is the company·s firm belief that everyone should have access to these wonderful experiences and they are committed to make this a reality. I can assure you that a great deal of thought and preparation has been put into this project. The safari vans have been modified, routes planned and staff trained. All of this has been accomplished in order that they might provide their clients with special needs the best possible experience and service. Let them take you to Africa! Authored by Candy Harrington, this well-researched resource contains detailed information about the logistics of planning accessible travel by plane, train, bus and ship. Says Harrington, · I guess you could categorize Barrier Free Travel as a self help book about accessible travel. My assumption is that people want to take an active roll in the holiday planning, whether they work with a travel agent or do it on their own.· Chapters include important details about protecting your wheelchair when you fly, traveling with oxygen, cruising, accessible ground transportation, choosing a travel agent, on-line booking, accessible recreation and budget. Also included is a comprehensive chapter devoted to self-advocacy, consumerrights and what to do when things go wrong. Barrier-Free Travel is an honest and authoritative resource about accessible travel. As the editor of Emerging Horizons, Candy Harrington is widely know her nononsense approach to access issues. In fact she founded Emerging Horizons so people would have accurate information about accessible travel options. Candy continues this same no-nonsense approach in Barrier-Free Travel. Travel, by its very nature, involves venturing away from the safety of home and hearth, and moving out and exploring unfamiliar territory. When you throw access issues into the equation, that unfamiliar territory can seem even more foreboding. The nature of travel will never change, but with the proper preparation, you can change your own personal experience. Call (888) 795-4274 or (215) 923-4686 or visit www.EmergingHorizon.com/book to order your copy of Barrier-Free Travel today or visit this page to read a sample chapter or see the complete table of contents. ******************************************************************* ACCESSIBLE RENTALS IN THE SMOKY MOUNTAINS If a secluded mountain-top hideaway complete with awe-inspiring views sounds appealing to you than you will be delighted to learn about Arnold Estates, wonderfully accessible log cabin rentals in the great Smoky Mountains near Galtinburg, Tennessee.
