ACCESS-ABLE TRAVEL SOURCE NEWSLETTER VOLUME 3 NUMBER 8 (August) http://www.access-able.com ****************************************************************************** NO EXCUSE NOT TO TRAVEL When Lucille Mehr announced her intention of taking another trip to Asia, her friend told her she couldn't do it. Lucille had made the trip the year before to visit her younger son who is a member of the foreign-service corps and is stationed in Bangladesh. But she was not blind then. Lucille, 89 years young, has lost her sight and now has a seeing-eye dog. She made the trip, which lasted 37 hours including all stopovers, solo. She was provided with a wheelchair upon her arrival at the Pittsburgh airport and she said the flight attendants on Singapore Airlines were very nice. She had visited Bangladesh when she was sighted but this time discovered how it is possible to see with one's imagination. She now has a ticket to travel anywhere in the U.S. and is deciding where to go next. This piece was reproduced with permission from the summer issue of Accent on Living, a disability magazine, P.O.
