NO EXCUSE NOT TO TRAVEL
When Lucille Mehr announced her intention of taking another trip to Asia,
her friend told her she couldn't do it. Lucille had made the trip the year
before to visit her younger son who is a member of the foreign-service
corps and is stationed in Bangladesh. But she was not blind then.
Lucille, 89 years young, has lost her sight and now has a seeing-eye dog.
She made the trip, which lasted 37 hours including all stopovers, solo.
She was provided with a wheelchair upon her arrival at the Pittsburgh
airport and she said the flight attendants on Singapore Airlines were very
nice. She had visited Bangladesh when she was sighted but this time
discovered how it is possible to see with one's imagination. She now has a
ticket to travel anywhere in the U.S. and is deciding where to go next.

SAN CLEMENTE OCEAN VIEW RENTAL
Welcome to Casa De Miguel, come and enjoy the ocean breezes and awesome
sunsets over the Pacific Ocean. Being a C 5-6 quad the owner has taken
much time and effort to create full accessibility, while maintaining the
feel and naturalness of a home. It's located in the beautiful beach resort
town of San Clemente. This location on the coast of Southern California
and is often referred to as the "French Rivera of the Pacific".
This home has four bedrooms and three bathrooms, with the master bedroom
having a roll-in shower room. Also the master bedroom comes with an
ortho-electric king-size bed for comfort and convenient transferring. The
ocean view from this room is beautiful and inspiring. A wonderful way to
greet the morning. The other three bedrooms sleep five comfortably and a
futon couch in the family room will accommodation two more. Another great
feature is the studio apartment, which includes a full bath that renters
who travel with private duty nurses or personal caregivers have found quite
convenient. The kitchen comes complete with microwave, coffee maker,
blender, pots, pans, utensils etc. There are also many great restaurants
in all price ranges in the area. The family room comes with a big screen
TV plus cable with over 200 channels and a VCR. During the winter months,
there is a beautiful wood burning fireplace that sets a warm atmosphere in
the room.
The whole house is on one level with wood floors throughout for easy
rolling. There are two separate patios, one facing west for magnificent
panoramic ocean views. The other patio has lush tropical landscaping that
includes palm trees, bamboo and banana trees, which even produce edible
fruit. There are also Plumeria trees that produce the flowers from which
Hawaiian leis are made of and are very fragrant.
The crowning feature of this sun-drenched patio is the volcanic fountain
that cascades into a pool of koi fish. Imagine your family and yourself
here enjoying the atmosphere and sharing special times that create lasting
memories.
San Clemente is located conveniently between Los Angeles and San Diego for
easy access to many attractions, beaches, theme parks, museums and much,
much more. Whatever you decide to do we're sure your stay at "Casa Miguel"
will be a pleasurable and memorable experience. There is access to the
Internet, email and a fax machine. Plus the owner has information on
companies that can provide medical supplies, accessible van rentals,
wheelchair repairs and nursing registries.

NEW ENGLAND FALL FOLIAGE TOUR
OCTOBER 10 - 17, 2000
This tour begins with pickup at Bradley Airport in Hartford, CT and
transfers to your hotel in Farmington, CT. There you will get to meet the
rest of the group over a light dinner. After a good nights rest you will
spend the day at Ledyard, home of Foxwood's the world's largest grossing
casino run by the Pequot Indian Tribe. While there you will also have time
to visit the Pequot Museum and Research Center.
On day three you will travel trough the fall colors to Stockbridge for a
visit to the Norman Rockwell Museum. You will have ample time to explore
this charming village. Keep your cameras ready on day four when you will
drive to Litchfield, which has all the markings of great postcards: white
clapboard churches, covered bridges, stone walls and weathered barns. It's
also the home of the magnificent 4000 acre White Memorial Foundation Nature
Preserve.
A trip back in time is on the agenda for day five. You will visit Old
Sturbridge Village, an outdoor history museum and recreated New England
town of the 1830's. The village covers over 200 acres and has more than 40
historic and reconstructed buildings (of which more than 20 are
accessible). Unpaved roads lead to houses, farms, ships, mills and gardens
typical of 19th Century rural New England. Historically dressed staff
members will be demonstrating typical farm chores for October in New
England. You will finish up your day of time travel with dinner at the
1771 Publick House on the Common.
Another color filled drive will start day six as the group travels to
Preston, CT. Your destination is The Inn on Lake Waramaug for brunch at
this 1796 Colonial Inn. A visit to the Hopkins Vineyard and Winery
completes the day.
Your last full day will be spent in Hartford. You will start with a visit
to The Mark Twain House with its rare interiors by Tiffany. Your Hartford
visit also includes The Old State House, oldest in the nation. This is the
sight of the first writen constitution and the famed Amistad trails.
An accessible coach and escort will be provided throughout the tour. Some

HAWII: A GUIDE FOR THE WHEELCHAIR VISTOR

STEPS FOR PLANNING that trip to "Paradise." This access guide answers all
your questions, when to go, where to stay, how to get there and what to
see. This guide will help make your trip more enjoyable, knowing in advance
what to expect and how to not miss seeing everything. It's full of

The Author, Patricia Smither, was born and raised in California. She
married Neal, a quadriplegic, and learned the difficulty of planning a
vacation when traveling in a wheelchair. She and her husband formed a
nonprofit corporation, "Access for Disabled Americans," to help ease some
of the many problems people with disabilities must face in their everyday
life. They devote their time to helping others.
The book was published in October 1999 is 115 pages and spiral bound. The

TANGO ARGENTINA
NOVEMBER 2-12, 2000

In the past there has been few travel opportunities for travelers with
disabilities to this area. Your adventure will begin with three days in
Buenos Aires, South America's most sophisticated capital. You will have
the balance of the day arrive to explore this splendid city of wide
boulevards lined with huge shade trees, plentiful plazas with monuments,
fountains and quaint sidewalk cafes. The next morning you will begin to
experience Buenos Aires on a private tour of the city visiting Plaza de
Mayo, a historically famous park surrounded by the Government Palace, old
Cabildo and the Cathedral housing the remains of San Martins. You will
have some leisure time in the afternoon to shop or rest up for the even
Tango Show with typical Argentina Music and extraordinary folk dancing.
For your last full day in the area you wild head out for a "FIESTA GAUCHA"
excursion including lunch. Enjoy a full day at the typical Gaucho ranch or
"Estancia" including a feast of barbecued beef and all the Argentine
trimmings.
On Monday the 6th you will fly to San Carlos de Bariloche. This delightful
area of Argentina is often compared to Switzerland. The splendid natural
scenery comprised of the snow capped Andes, glimmering lakes vivid with
color, wild flowers and towering meadows. You will have the afternoon to
explore at your leisure. In the morning your guide will pick you up for a
full-day tour of Bariloche, including the "Small Circuit". On your next
and last day in this area you will be taken on a full day excursion
beginning with a drive along Lake Nahuel Huapi to Villa La Angosturs, on
Peninsula Huemul. After lunch you will cruise on the lake to Quetrihue and
the Arrayanes Woods.
Today, the 9th of November, you will begin the last leg of your journey
with a flight to Iguazu Falls. Here you will have an opportunity to
explore the falls from both sides and the air. Iguaza Falls is one of
South America's most remarkable natural wonders. The three immense sheets
of falling water total 2.6 miles in length. You won't soon forget your
visit to this incredible waterfall that's higher and wider than Niagra.
