                         CUSTOM TOURS TO THE UK

Roll Around Britain is a unique tour company based in the Yorkshire Dales
in England. Malcolm Rhodes, the owner has been operating tours to England,
Scotland and Ireland for the past fifteen years and for the past three
years has been specializing in tours for people with disabilities.

After much consultation Malcolm designed a purpose built Mercedes van to
carry up to six passengers in great comfort, two of whom can be wheelchair
users who do not transfer. On his van he also has picnic tables and
chairs, a stove to make that quintessentially English cup of tea and even a
barbeque. As he is totally independent, Malcolm can create very special
itineraries for his clients taking them to places other tour operators can
not get to with their larger vehicles and greater numbers. Each day with
"Roll Around Britain" can be a separate adventure.
To ensure the success of his tours, Malcolm has personally inspected each
and every one of the accommodations he uses. The options range from five
star deluxe castles to very comfortable country guesthouses and traditional
country inns. His database also includes accessible restaurants, theatres,
stately homes, over one thousand public bathrooms and much more.
Information is constantly being added as he travels around Britain and
Ireland discovering even more accessible places.

As Malcolm is actually based in Britain he has built up a unique local
knowledge of Britain and Ireland. This knowledge together with his
experience in the tourism and hospitality business allows him to provide a
unique travel experience for his clients.

Some of the unique features of Roll Around Britain tours are the gourmet
picnics in spectacularly beautiful places, very special accommodations,
your own personal itinerary planned especially for you, and of course fish
and chips the way they really should be.

Roll Around Britain works very closely with the British Tourist Authority,
and the Irish Tourist Board on matters of disability. For more information

NORTH AMERICAN PARKING PERMITS FOR PERSONS
WITH DISABILITIES NOW HONORED IN EUROPE

There have been many advances in opening up travel opportunities for
persons with disabilities. One such advance benefits the increasing
numbers who wish to take driving vacations in Europe.

In 1997, the European Conference of Ministers of Transportation (ECMT)
passed a resolution that will make it easier for persons with disabilities
to operate private vehicles in Europe. When travelers park, they display a
document that shows the international symbol for persons with disabilities,
as well as the name of the holder of the document. Starting January 1999 a
traveler in a ECMT country with a parking document can get the same parking
facilities as a citizen of that country, provided the traveler is from an
ECMT member country or from an associated member country. Since an
increasing number of motorists with disabilities are coming to Europe from
the United States and Canada, the resolution recognized parking permits
issued to drivers from these countries as well. (Taken from the spring
issue of the Canadian Transportation Agency's publication "Moving Ahead").

FEATURED DESTINATION - This month's feature is about Southwest Colorado,
the home of Mesa Verde National Park and the Durango to Silverton Narrow
Gauge Railroad. They train takes you on a fifty miles that passes through
some of the most spectacular, mountain scenery you'll find anywhere. It
stops in Silverton an old mining town, where you can stretch your legs and
have some lunch before the return trip.
