NEW WEB DIRECTORY IDENTIFIES
'DISABILITY-FRIENDLY' AIRLINES
Founder of Everybody's Hotel Directory (www.everybody.co.uk), Jonathan
Kaye, has announced the launch of what is believed to be the first truly
'disability-friendly' world airline directory.
Everybody's Airline Directory, which has been incorporated into the hotel
directory site. It lists all the world's major airlines (that responded)
together with information summarizing each airline's procedures and
regulations for handling the global concerns of people with disabilities
when flying.
Issues covered include carriage of wheelchairs, carriage of guide/service
dogs, ability to provide oxygen, boarding procedures, seating arrangements,
and their ability to provide for special dietary requirements. It also
indicates if cabin crew has had disability training, whether or not medical
clearance is required and the availability of emergency procedures in
different formats such as Braille or large print.
The commercially based directory, like its sister UK hotel directory, is
aimed not only at the estimated 75m+ travelers with disabilities worldwide
year, their friends, families and carers, but for anyone including travel
agents and tour operators who are known to need such information.
In November, Everybody's Hotel Directory itself is estimated to have become
the most used UK disability-friendly hotel listing. Launched in January
1999, it lists over 2000 mainstream hotels all assessed as having both
accommodation and a restaurant that are disability-friendly. The site
currently receives around 30,000 hits a month and has won a "Best of the
