TRAVEL TIPS - If a trip to the beach is in your plans for this summer be
aware that many resort areas now have beach wheelchairs available, but you
may have to do a little looking. Beach wheelchairs are usually available one
of two ways. First, through the parks service of the resort area. They are
usually free and sometimes can even be reserved. The trick is that they are
not available at all beach access points, so check ahead for the nearest one
to where you are staying. In areas where they are not offered by the parks
service, check local rental facilities that rent beach chair, umbrellas and
accessories. Some places will even deliver to where you are staying. On rare
occasions beach front hotels will have them available for their guests.

RESORT IN COSTA RICA - Accessible Adventures International will be
celebrating the opening of their new accessible resort at the end of June.
Located in Playas del Coco, Costa Rica, this totally refurbished property is
designed to accommodate all guests. Your adventure begins with accessible
transfers from the airport.

Choice of accommodations range from luxury one bedroom, kitchenette units
that sleep four to deluxe one room suites that sleep two and also have
kitchenettes . If you are more adventurous they also have a six bunk cabin
and four tent platforms complete with an accessible bath house. All this is
located just 100 meters from the beach and within rolling distance of town
restaurants. In an effort to make it convenient for all their guests, they
can also arrange attendant care and equipment rentals.

The accommodations are just the start, the grounds are level with trails
winding through the tropical landscape. The resort has a wide range of
adapted equipment and recreation opportunities available including diving
and diving instruction for person with disabilities. There are ATV's, wave
runners, and beach wheelchairs available. Snorkeling, horseback riding and
fishing can be arranged. If you want to explore some of the sites of Costa
Rica they can set that up for you too. The nearby town of Playas del Coco is
welcoming the resort by working
towards making their restaurants and shops accessible.
